The success stories are our favorite part. Each dog that is placed on this page lets us know that we are doing our jobs. Each dog that is placed on this page makes room for yet another dog to go into a foster home.

Below are some of the success stories of dogs that have been adopted through Underdog ResQ. We ask each adoption family to keep in touch and send photos of their new companions with their new families.

Name:  pixie
Breed:  Pit Bull
Age:  5-6 months
Sex:  Female

pixie's Success Story
Pixie was 5 months old when we met her in a shelter that could not place her due to a lack of an adoption program. Her destiny didn't look very good considering she was a pit bull and she had demodectic mange with extensive hariloss (see photo below). Luckily, one of our foster families with a dog, kids and a cat offered to help her. She was in foster care for only one month before she was adopted in October of 2009.

Here is an update from her family in July of 2010:

We adopted Pixie from Underdog back in October of 2009 and have not looked back once, as you can tell by the lag in the update! Pixie has been an absolute love and quickly became my partner in crime, comingwith me wherever I go and always ready for an adventure.

When we got Pix, she was still battling with Demodex Mange, and I can say it was a tough and long battle but we're finally beyond it with only minimal evidence she was ever effected. It's hard dealing with relapses and seeing how miserable your dog can be, but fear not future adopters, it's a fight worth winning.

Pixie has been the rule when it comes to pit bulls: a politician. She gets along with everyone she meets and has changed the mind of every skeptic she's run into. She's easily the happiest dog in America, whether she's romping around with play buddies, laying around in the grass, or sleeping in with me on a Saturday morning.

I don’t remember not having Pixie and I'm certainly planning on
adopting a sibling pit through Underdog ResQ in the future.

Name:  Lucy
Breed:  pit bull
Age:  1-1.5 years
Sex:  Female

Lucy's Success Story
Lucy is a 1 1/2 year old pit bull that was found stray and ended up in a shelter without a shelter program. She spent one month in a foster home before she was adopted by a very loving family. Here's what they had to say about Lucy several months later in July of 2010:

We knew Lucy was meant to be a part of our family the minute we met her at her foster-mom's store shopping for our 2 chihuahuas at home. She is akind, loving, gentle girl who melts your heart with her expressive eyes
and loving heart. She quickly felt right at home considering her timidness atfirst, all thanks to her awesome foster-parents who we feel as if we have known for years! She gets along very well with our older chihuahuas, even
cuddling on the couch together! Whether we are playing fetch at the nearby park or curled up on the couch, Lucy is the best companion we could have ever asked for. She never stops making us smile and laugh with her lack
of gracefulness and passion for playing with multiple toys at once. She has begun to change people's views of the stereotypical "pit-bull", which we are determined to spread as far as we can. Having her in our lives only makes us wish we could have adopted sooner and begs the question of when we can adopt another! Thank you to Carolyn and Bill and Underdog ResQ for our sweet Lucy!

Name:  Stewey
Breed:  Pit Bull
Age:  10 months
Sex:  Male

Stewey's Success Story
YES! Stewey has a family after about 10 months, two knee surgeries, and a case of domedectic mange. Stewey has managed to find the perfect family. Do you want to know who that is?

Its just the greatest guy ever, Stephen. Stephen is Stewey’s idea of the perfect family. Stephen along with his girlfriend Nicole are just what this wacky guy was waiting for. He knew right away upon walking into their home that they were just perfect. He walked in wagging that tail a mile a minute as if to say what took you guys so long. After sniffing around and rolling around on their couch( with Nicole’s blessing) he got to see his very own backyard. Yup no more sharing with 3 foster brothers and sisters, this yard was all his. They even had grass left. Just when he thought all was perfect, it got even better, Nicole’s parents came over. They had also been waiting to meet the new addition. You see they love animals also and have a special affection for dogs of the bully breed. Life is good! There were already toys waiting for him and so much love for this guy he knew he hit the jackpot. And then in comes Auntie and the Grammy to beat all Grammys (Carole you rock), with her gentle soul and animal loving ways we knew Stewey was in the best Family situation ever.
Stewey spends his days walking trails near his home and spending time in the water. Two of his most favorite things in the world, besides Stephen and Nicole of course.

We, his foster family, are so thankful for Stephen for adopting this crazy wacky little dude. We know they will have a lifetime of love and laughs with him.We are so glad Stewey finally got what he wanted. Patience does pay off little guy!

Name:  Blue *SC*
Breed:  Border Collie
Age:  9 years old
Sex:  Male

Blue *SC*'s Success Story
This sweet 3-legged boy was found in a very crowded shelter in South Carolina. We took one look at that sweet face and just had to help him. This sweet angel made a lasting impression on everyone who met him and drew a lot of attention and love from anyone who saw him.

Blue was very sick with several infections when he came to his foster home. With plenty of TLC, he recovered from all of his infections quickly and packed on a much needed 15 pounds. Blue loved spending his days gazing out of the window and going for walks. We knew he'd be the perfect companion for a very lucky person.

The lucky person came along! Blue lives in Richmond, VA with a young woman who loves him dearly. We are so happy Blue has a warm place to call his forever home now. Blue still spends his days gazing out the window and enjoying walks and also loves to spend time at the local dog park, where he plays with all of his friends.

Name:  Pinky Tuscadero
Breed:  Pit bull
Age:  6 months
Sex:  Female

Pinky Tuscadero's Success Story
Little Pinky Tuscadero was found as a stray and ended up in a shelter without an adoption program. Underdog ResQ took her under its wings in January of 2009 until she found her new loving family in April of 2009. Pinky now lives with a wonderful couple, their new baby and a wonderful male pittie companion.

Here is a note from Pinky's new family (now called Penny):
Penny (AKA Pinky) has been a gre at addition to our family. She loves life and always makes us smile no ma tter what kind of day we are having. Penny and Otis (our 5 year old Pitbu ll) have become best buds and do everything together. Their favorite thin gs are chasing critters in our fenced in back yard and cuddling on the co uch. Since we have adopted Penny our daughter has entered our life. We ha d no fear about Penny and Delaney because her foster-family included trip let-toddlers and a seven year old, whom she was great with.

We’re so glad that we decided to get a second dog, and that it turned out to be Penny. Delaney loves to watch Penny and Otis and can t wait to explore and play with them. We look forward to all the fu n they’re going to have, and the wonderful memories they’ ll make.

Thank you Underdog ResQ for saving and caring for Penny until we found her!

 Common misconceptions
 before adopting a dog:
1. We’re getting Rex for the kids - they will do all the work.

Maybe for the first week or so, but most kids will slack off soon enough and the responsibility will fall on your laps. You are considered to be the owner because you are over the age of 21. If your kids do not walk Rex, then it is up to you that it gets done. As much as we talk to our kids about responsibility and as much as they agree to care for your new dog, we all know that sooner or later most kids will lose interest or get tired.

If you can positively answer these questions and concerns, then you may be ready to adopt Rex.
